Fixation on a wooden lower structure

Back to overview

General

- The choice of the way of fixation and the lower structure are mainly determined by the nature of the base as well as the physical building requirements. EUROTHANE G panels can be applied for walls, ceilings and partition walls. For this purpose, the panels are fixed on a wooden lower structure.

- When used as wall coating, EUROTHANE G insulation panels can be glued directly on the base by the means of adhesive gypsum.

- UROTHANE G panels should be placed about 1 cm from the finished floor, this to avoid moisture absorption by the gypsum carton panel. In case this procedure cannot be applied and the panels have to be placed up till the floor, the edge of the panel should be protected by the means of a synthetic foil or a sealing kit.

Fixation on a wooden lower structure

- The supporting structure should be rigid enough. The maximum bending under influence of the expected load has to be smaller than 1/300 of the spanning.

- For this lower structure RNG 3rd quality NBN 272, you should use straight and dry wood. The slats have to be planed on the side against which the EUROTHANE G panels are placed. The slats should not be treated with impregnation products which could harm the means of fixation or the insulation.

- EUROTHANE G panels have a higher bending rigidity in the longitudinal direction than in the transversal direction. The in-between distance between the wooden slats can thus be higher with transversal placement (650 mm) than with longitudinal placement (600 mm).

- The fixation of EUROTHANE G panels on the lower structure happens preferably by means of high speed building screws with trumpet head. Up till a panel thickness of 35 mm adapted nails can also be used.

- Screwing offers the advantage that the panels are not springy, that there is a minimal risk for damages of the panel surface and that you have to foresee less points of fixation.

- The distance from the screws to the longitudinal sides of the EUROTHANE G panels is minimum 10 mm. Up till the crosscut or sawn sides a minimum distance of 15 mm should be kept. The maximum distance between the screws is 250 mm (200 mm for nails).

- The screws or nails should always penetrate the board perpendicularly and in such a way that every tenth of a millimetre they are driven into the gypsum carton panel without drilling the carton. The means of fixation should not sting through the wood. Screws with a self-tapping point or trumpet head should be used. The length of the screws should be such that they penetrate at least 20 mm in the wood.
